The first issue of Austin Living magazine, Austin’s guide to local living, will hit newsstands tomorrow.

An extension of Southern Minnesota magazine, Austin Living magazine is designed by Austin residents for Austin residents and showcases the highlights of Austin life throughout the year.

The first issue has several features on the powerful women who lead efforts to improve the quality of life in Austin, like Jennie Knoebel, executive director of the Paramount Theatre. Knoebel grew up in Austin, and her journey back home illustrates the independent leadership she brings to the local arts and entertainment community.

Austin Living also shares Dr. Ann Bode’s story. Bode, the associate director at The Hormel Institute, switched career paths from high school and college athletics administration to medical research, and she is a large contributing factor to The Institute’s success.

Austin Living’s first issue also shines a spotlight on Hormel Foods Corp. attorney Susan Olson, whose travels around the world have made her somewhat of a vacation expert. Olson shared photos and tips for planning a far-off getaway with Austin Living.

Austin Living is available for free at the Austin Daily Herald office, the Austin Area Chamber of Commerce, the Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau, and area convenience stores.
