Sidney M. Heiny, 90, of Austin, Minn., died Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Austin.

Sidney was born Sept. 28, 1922, in Medina, N.D., to Leonard and Mae (Wyborny) Heiny. Sidney spent his younger years in Medina and moved to Austin when he was 10 years old. Sidney joined the United States Army and served his country in World War II. On April 26, 1947, he was united in marriage to Eileen A. Hoff in Austin. The couple had four children. He worked at Hormel Foods for 42 years and was a member of Austin Masonic Lodge No. 39, the Eagles, Elks, American Legion and the VFW. His passions were his horses, traveling and camping with family and friends alike. He especially enjoyed family gatherings.

Survivors include his children, Cindy (James) Samuel, Thomas (Barb) Heiny and Bob Heiny, all of Austin; three grandchildren, Zachary (Sarah) Heiny of Minneapolis, Andrew Samuel of Chicago, and Adam (Jennifer) Heiny of Spring Lake, N.C.; three great-grandchildren Lilah Heiny, Arlo Heiny and Sydnie Heiny (soon to be born); three sisters-in-law, Pauline Hoff of Austin, Jean Hoff of Tacoma, Wash., Patricia Heiny of Austin; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Mae Heiny; his wife Eileen Heiny; infant son Larry; brothers George, Leonard and James; sisters Opal, Wilma, Goldie and Doris.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2013, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is one hour before the service. Private family interment at a later date. Military rites by American Legion Post No. 91. Masonic rites by Masonic Fidelity Lodge No. 39. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.
