Mildred G. Tapp, 92, of Lake City, Minn., died Sunday morning, March 10, 2013, at the Mayo Clinic Health System–Lake City Care Center in Lake City, Minn.
Mildred Gertrude Pinkava was born Feb. 14, 1921, in Austin, Minn., to Edward W. and Lura (Lonergan) Pinkava. She attended Mower County Rural Schools and graduated in 1939 from High School in Austin. On Aug. 19, 1944, she married Vernon Tapp at the Methodist Church in Brownsdale; he died June 27, 2008. After marriage they lived in the Dexter, Minn., area where they farmed. They moved later to Rochester and several years ago they retired to Lake City.
Mildred was an LPN at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin, and then at the State Hospital in Rochester for many years. She also worked at Hormel in Austin. Mildred was a former 4-H Leader, and enjoyed crocheting, oil-painting and quilting. She also enjoyed doing genealogy. Mildred was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lake City.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Carol (Robert) Hanson of Lake City; son, James (Janet) Tapp of Houston, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Edythe (Elmer) Dittmer of Austin; three brothers, Edward (Roberta) Pinkava of Austin, James Pinkava of Brownsdale, Minn., and Franklyn Pinkava of Moorhead, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son, David.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13, at the United Methodist Church, at 213 N Oak St. in Lake City, Minn., with Pastor Kristine Marshall officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Greenwood Cemetery in Brownsdale, Minn. Friends and family may visit from 10 a.m. to time of service at the United Methodist Church in Lake City on Wednesday.
