VERO BEACH, FLA. — The Riverland baseball team beat Acadamie baseball of Canada 3-1, but lost to Division II Avery Point 4-2 in Vero Beach, Fla. Tuesday.
Cody Meyer of Austin had a no-hitter going with one out in the seventh inning for the Blue Devils (4-2 overall) in their win, but he he allowed a couple of soft hits, a run and a couple of walks so Brock Rude came and got the last out for the save.
“Cody did a nice job,” RCC head coach Scott Koenigs said. “He was cruising until the last inning, where he got a little tight.”
RCC looked like it had a 2-1 lead in the third inning of the second game, but a run was turned into an out when it was ruled that RCC’s second runner missed a base on his way to scoring.
Avery-Point scored three runs in the the next game to take a 4-1 lead.
“That play changed the whole momentum of the game,” Koenigs said.
