Mattie Obermeyer, 92, Walters

Mattie Helena Obermeyer, 92, of Walters, died Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Parkview Care Center in Wells. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Lutheran Church in Walters. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. The Rev. Donald Rose will officiate and burial will take place in United Lutheran Cemetery in rural Walters, Faribault County. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is in charge of arrangements. Mattie was born May 17, 1920, in Putbas, Germany, the daughter of William and Anna (Sens) Ladwig. They immigrated to the United States in 1924, and settled near Rice Lake. She graduated from eighth grade. She worked for and lived with Tom and Julia Sonksen first by Walters and then near Conger. She was blessed to be a part of their family. She also worked at Munsingwear. On Aug. 29, 1948, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Martin Obermeyer, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. They lived their entire married life on the farm where they raised their family until 2009. Her priorities were her family, raising her children and being with her grandchildren. She enjoyed following all their activities and sporting events. She always made sure their wishes were fulfilled. She enjoyed cooking, baking and loved dancing and enjoyed bowling in her younger years. She was an active member of United Lutheran Church in Walters and participated in the ladies groups.

Mattie is survived by four children, Mark (Sharon) Obermeyer of Kiester, Carol Mutschler of Bricelyn, Paul (Rhoda) Obermeyer of Wells, John (Jessica) Obermeyer of St. Clair; 11 grandchildren, Jerrod (Heather) Obermeyer of Kiester, Phillip (MacKenzie) Obermeyer of Rochester, Melissa (Jeff) Deuth of Menomonie, Wis., Joe (Dawn Lutteke) Mutschler of Wells, Sarah (Trent) Stanton of West Fargo, N.D., Tim Mutschler (fiancé Callie) of Rochester, Kara Obermeyer (Corey Dornack) of Chatfield, Michael (Heather) Obermeyer of Wells, Matthew Obermeyer of Wells, Brian and Kyle Obermeyer of St. Clair; 10 great-grandchildren, Tristian and Reanna Obermeyer of Kiester, Daniel, Nathan and Lauren Mutschler of Wells, Helena Stanton of West Fargo, Makenna and Lane Dornack of Chatfield, Brielle Obermeyer of Wells, Kaitlyn Deuth of Menomonie, and one on the way; sisters-in-law, Esther Obermeyer of Wells, Della Obermeyer of Albert Lea; brother-in-law, Howard Oletzke of Las Vegas; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
