BYRON — The Hayfield boys basketball team broke out of its recent slump as it knocked off No. 2 ranked Byron 47-46 on the road Friday.

The Bears (18-2 overall, 10-1 HVL Gold) had an 18-game winning streak going but that came to an end when Cole Kruger, who scored 19 points, hit a pair of free throws to put Hayfield (15-5 overall, 8-3 HVL Gold) up 46-44 with 2:03 left.

Kruger added one more free throw with 25 seconds left and Byron air balled a game winning heave as time expired.
