Austin High School is a source of pride in our community, and congratulations are due to the young men and women who participate in the school’s successful athletics and extracurricular programs.

There are far too many successful winter activities in town to list, but several Packer teams are excelling this year. The boys basketball team is still undefeated and ranked No. 2 statewide. The team is on its way to clinching another Big Nine conference title after defeating Rochester Century last Friday. Austin faces Winona at home tonight starting at 7:15 p.m.

The Packer dance team took fourth place at the Class ‘AA’ state meet on Saturday, marking yet another stellar performance at state and cementing a tradition of dancing excellence.

Let’s not forget Austin’s gymnastics team, which rose far above the competition to earn its third trip to the Class ‘A’ state meet in the past four years. While the team took fifth place its past two turns at state, gymnasts like Sela Fadness and Abby Bickler are sure to push the team to a better place this year.

Austin isn’t excelling at athletics alone: Eight AHS students earned a trip to the All-State Music Concert this past weekend as well. With so many students doing so many good things, it’s fine time to show more Packer pride.
