Police are investigating a Friday afternoon fight in which five juveniles and a 19-year-old were arrested after striking a 17-year-old multiple times near the Austin Public Library.

The teenage suspects, ages 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 were released to their parents. Three Mower County Sheriff’s deputies and two Austin Police officers cut off the suspects near the Austin Municipal Plant on Fourth Avenue and arrested them at about 3:15 p.m.

According to the police report, the victim said the suspects kicked him while he was on the ground, and he didn’t know why the group attacked him. Officers reported bumps, scrapes and red marks on the victim, but the victim refused medical attention.

Police are still investigating whether the fight is connected to another assault from last Wednesday in which a 19-, 22- and 26-year-old assaulted four juveniles and sent one 17-year-old to the hospital with a fractured skull and cranial hemorrhaging. According to the court complaint in that case, victims say it was gang related.

The report has been forwarded to the Mower County Attorney’s Office for possible charges.
