Olive S. Simonson, 90, of Austin, Minn., died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Prairie Manor in Blooming Prairie.

Olive was born Feb. 15, 1923, near Hayward, Minn. to Oliver and Susan (Ellegaard) Hanson. On May 12, 1946, Olive married Jay Simonson in Hayward, Minn. Olive loved going to garage sales, flowers, gardening, and trips to the casino (even if she wouldn’t admit it). She enjoyed spending her winters in Yuma, Ariz. Olive especially loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Wherever she went, Olive was always glad to lend a helping hand.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jay, two brothers and two sisters.

Olive is survived by her children: Barry (Earlene) Simonson, Austin, Minn.; Sharon (James) Mead, Park Rapids, Minn.; Barbara (Alan) Cook, Glenville, Minn.; Shirley (James) Johnson, Blooming Prairie, Minn.; Bradley (Lisa) Simonson, Owatonna, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin with Reverend Jeffrey Forbes officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the service at the church on Saturday morning.
