Ione M. Wald, 78, of Austin, Minn., died Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin.

Ione Marlene Ferencik was born Aug. 29, 1934, in Tabor, Minn., to Andrew M. and Nora (Gorsuch) Ferencik. She grew up in East Grand Forks and graduated from East Grand Forks High School. On Aug. 19, 1954, Ione married Richard Wald. The couple had two children. In 1997, she moved from East Grand Forks to Austin, and then to Brownsdale in 2006. An avid reader, Ione enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include her children Steve (Dianna) Wald of Austin and Debbie (Greg) Schuette of Brownsdale, Minn.; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Nora Ferencik; four sisters; one brother.
