Hayfield boys beat Kasson-Mantorville in double OT

KASSON — It took more than they expected, but the Hayfield boys basketball team snapped its three-game losing streak when it beat Kasson-Mantorville (2-18 overall, 0-11 HVL Gold) 69-62 in double overtime on the road Tuesday.
Drew Streightiff hit a pair of 3-pointers in the last two minutes of regulation, including one with 10 seconds left that tied the game at 54-54.
Hayfield led 60-57 near the end of the first overtime when the KoMets hit a step-back three at the buzzer, but the Vikings (14-5 overall, 7-3 HVL Gold) took over in the second overtime as Cole Kruger scored eight of his 26 points in that session.
Hayfield missed 16 of 23 free throws in regulation, but hit 9-of-12 in the two overtimes.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Hayfield head coach Chris Pack said.
