The Austin boys hockey team broke out of its scoring slump as it put up a season’s best offensive performance in an 11-0 win over Waseca (3-10 overall) in Riverside Arena Tuesday.

The Packers (4-6-1 overall) had scored just seven goals in their last five games, but Austin senior Marcus Stoulil almost matched that total on his own when he scored a career-high six goals in Tuesday’s win. Stoulil added one assist in the win.

“Marcus was in the zone tonight and he played really well,” Austin head coach Erik LaRock said.

Austin picked up its first shutout of the season as sophomore goalie Gus Kirsch finished with 18 saves in his first career varsity win.

“He earned it,” LaRock said. “He made a couple of nice saves.”

The best part of Austin’s offensive explosion is that 10 of its 11 goals came in five-on-five situations. In all, the Packers had 45 shots on goal.

“That was really nice to see us score on even strength,” LaRock said.

Ethan Larson had one goal and four assists for the Packers and Tony Baudler had a goal and two assists.

Cole Nicol and Trevor Stevens each had had one goal and one assist, Blake Halsey had one goal and Alec Pepper, Pat Wagner, Nick Castellano and Connor Peterson all had one assist.

With the victory, the Packers have now matched last season’s win total with 14 games remaining on the schedule.
