A longtime Austin salon closed last week.

Regis Hair Salon inside Oak Park Mall abruptly shut down last Tuesday, Jan. 8 after a visit from corporate officers with Regis Corp.

“It was nasty,” said Michelle Brandt, former hairstylist at the salon. “It still is.”

Six employees, including the manager, were let go after a meeting called Tuesday morning, according to Brandt. Brandt said none of the Austin employees had any clue the salon was going to close, and none of them will receive severance pay.

“We were in shock,” she said.

Brandt, who worked at Regis for more than two decades, said she’s received several calls from longtime clients. She and two other hairstylists will work at Hair Designers in Austin.

A Regis spokesperson confirmed the Austin location had closed. It had been at Oak Park Mall for several decades.
