OWATONNA — The Austin gymnastics team closed out its dual season in style as they set a school scoring record in a 146.675-146.225 win Tuesday.
Owatonna also broke its own school record in the loss.
Carolyn Hackel set the tone for the Packers in the beam, which was her only event due to some back soreness, and Austin set a season0high score of 36.245 in the event.
“She is confident and poised, in a difficult position,” Austin head coach Mark Raymond said. “Most of the time it is hard for that first girl to get up and set the tone for the team, but Carolyn wants to be there and it shows in her routine.”
Austin was led by Sela Fadness in the all-around, as she led the field with a 38.5. Abby Bickler totaled at 36.55 and Maddie Mullenbach had a 36.325.
The Huskies have won five straight Big Nine titles and the Packers, who won all of their Big Nine duals this season, will have their chance to end that streak at the Big Nine meet Feb. 9 in Mankato.
