It’s interesting to consider all the elements in the account of David’s sin with Bathsheba and see some similarities in the sins connected with abortion and its defense. What do we have? We have illicit sex.

We have lies and hypocrisy. We have murder. What one won’t resort to, just to get rid of what stands in the way of pursuing what one wants! Read the account. It’s all there, 2 Samuel 12.

We have heard the defense infinitum ad nauseum that abortion is about the right to privacy. Those who defend abortion generally lack consistency. They often will be the ones who on the one hand want to say the government has no business invading the privacy of our bedrooms and yet will advocate free contraception and abortifacients at taxpayer expense! Talk about placing the government in the bedroom and under the sheets! What hypocrisy; all this talk about privacy is a lie. And do we need to examine all the other ways our government invades our privacy on a daily basis? As Westley told Count Rugen in Princess Bride, “Lies do not become us.” Or do they?

Let’s cut through the sanctimonious appeals to “rights” and “privacy” and admit abortion is by and large a bloody consequence of illicit sex. Roe v. Wade is about fornication, the right to fornicate without taking the responsibility for a child conceived by such behavior. And even in those rarer instances, where a child is conceived within the marriage bond and an abortion takes place, the same still holds true — avoid responsibility and the “inconvenience” of a child by killing it.

In a chilling statement made by Mr. Obama last year at this time, he defended Roe v. Wade as a way for ‘our daughters’ to have same chances as sons to ‘fulfill their dreams.’ A human being stands in the way of dreams in this case, much like Uriah stood in the way of David’s dream of taking Bathsheba for his own. Uriah was an inconvenient truth; he had to be disposed of much like a baby who gets in the way of its parent’s goals and dreams. Fifty-four million sons and daughters sacrificed in the pursuit of dreams.

The Psalmist said: “They sacrificed their sons and daughters to the demons/they poured out innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; and the land was polluted with blood./Thus they became unclean by their acts, and played the harlot in their doings … they were rebellious in their purposes, and were brought low because of their iniquity”

(Psalm 106:38-39, 43).

Move over Baal and Moloch and Dagon; the altars at which this nation gathers around during the Roe v. Wade national holiday are those dedicated to illicit sex, careers and fulfilling dreams. And while the idols are different, the sacrifice is the same: the blood of sons and daughters.

We indeed have been brought low. God have mercy on us.
