Emma is Brenna Bauman’s favorite name, and Emma Marlene Bauman just became Brenna’s favorite person.
Emma is the first baby born in Austin in 2013, coming into the world at 12:09 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1.
“I’ve always liked the name Emma,” 19-year-old Brenna said. “It’s kind of been my favorite name since I was younger. I thought it would be a good name for her.”
Emma was born at 6 pounds, 12 ounces and 19 inches long to Brenna and father Caleb Lack, 19. She came about two weeks early, according to Brenna, but was otherwise an easy child to carry through pregnancy.
“She’s pretty content as long as she’s being held,” Brenna said.
Brenna is a Riverland Community College student who plans on earning her general education there. She hopes to open her own daycare center one day.
“I’ve always thought I would do something with kids,” she said.
