Lukes scores 19 as Packer boys beat Red Wing

RED WING — Austin junior Bret Lukes poured in a career-high 19 points as the Packers boys basketball team beat Red Wing (4-3 overall) 64-52 on the road Friday.

Lukes added eight assists and three rebounds while going 6-for-8 from the field and 3-for-4 on threes.

“Bret played a heck of a game tonight,” Austin head coach Kris Fadness said.

No. 2 ranked Austin (6-0 overall) trailed 44-41 when it used an 8-0 run that saw Ajuda Nywesh convert a lay-up and hit a three.

“We had some big possessions in the second half,” Fadness said. “We kept answering the bell and we finally got over the hump and pulled away.”

Austin junior Zach Wessels scored 17 points in the win.

“Wessels carried us in the first half,” Fadness said.
