City Car Wash reopens after fire

A local car wash has scrubbed itself clean from a fire that shut it down in March.

City Car Wash, a full-service detail shop and car wash on Oakland Ave. that also sells used cars, is officially open for business again following repairs from a fire earlier this year. Owner Jeff Carney said a computer part that allows the wash to be automated arrived Wednesday and has the business fully operational.

The car wash opened quietly on Nov. 23 to customers who were passing by, but only under manual operation. Carney deliberately kept the opening quiet so the car wash wouldn’t get overwhelmed while it was working out the kinks.

“I didn’t really advertise big yet,” he said. “I wanted to make sure I didn’t break down right away.”

The car wash will offer the same services as before, but the building has been improved to meet those needs, he said.

An electrical fire broke out overnight at City Car Wash in early March, which may have resulted from too much electrical load, Carney said. It caught in one of the office walls where various office appliances had been plugged in.

“It pretty much shut us down,” he said. “We had to rewire the entire building.”

The part of the building that actually washes the cars only suffered smoke damage, he added.
