Stabbing suspect sentenced to jail three years later

An Austin man involved in a fight and stabbing that happened nearly three years ago has been sentenced to 150 days in jail.

Johnny Garcia-Moctezuma, 23, was sentenced to the jail term Monday in Mower County Court for his charge of gross misdemeanor second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, great bodily harm.

Garcia-Moctezuma must also serve two years’ supervised probation and 10 days of community service. A felony charge for second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon was dismissed.

Moctezuma said he was involved in a fight and stabbed near the Tendermaid Sandwich Shop on Jan. 12, 2010, but said he was the one who tried to break it up. Another man, Adrian Alexander Cantu, 21, of Austin was convicted of felony third-degree assault for the stabbing. He was sentenced to 80 hours of community service and five years’ supervised probation.

Garcia-Moctezuma was given credit for 83 days in jail already served.
