A motorcycle rider received several citations Wednesday after he allegedly crashed into a school bus and left the scene.
According to the police report, Mark Gilbert, 43, of Albert Lea, ran into the school bus at the Ninth Street and Third Avenue NE intersection in Austin at about 8:45 a.m. The bus was on its way to get one more student when the cycle allegedly ran into a rear section of the bus. Gilbert allegedly dumped the bike on its side and fell off while causing dents to the bus and scattering debris, oil and gas on the road. Debris was also reportedly stuck to the bus.
Gilbert said he did not want to involve police and began pushing the bike toward Austin Tire, which is just east of the scene. An officer later questioned Gilbert in the area and cited him for driving after suspension, leaving the scene of an accident and no proof of insurance. A state accident report has been filed, as well.
According to the police report, Gilbert said he did not see the bus.
