WILLMAR — Carley Grunewald’s hat trick wasn’t enough as the Packers lost to Willmar in the title game of a girls hockey tournament in Willmar Saturday.
Riley Schneider scored the game winning goal for Willmar (3-1 overall) with 3:08 left in the game after Grunewald had tied things up at 3-3 with a shorthanded goal with 13:20 left in the game.
“It was a fast paced game and it went back and forth,” Austin head coach Denny Bray said. “I thought we played good in the tournament.”
Austin had 31 shots in the loss and freshman Mara Overby had 41 saves for the Packers.
Kennedy Thompson assisted on all three of Grunewald’s goals.
Austin (1-3 overall) beat Morris-Benson Area 11-0 on Friday in the tournament’s opening round.
