It’s a trap! A trapshooting team, that is, and it will soon be added to Austin High School’s activities.
The Austin Public School Board is expected to approve the AHS Clay Target Team at its monthly board meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday inside the District Conference Room at AHS.
District officials held an informational meeting earlier this fall in response to a burgeoning interest among students and faculty. Trapshooting is a sanctioned high school activity with more than 100 teams in Minnesota alone.
An activity proposal form lists more than 50 students interested in participating in the AHS Clay Target Team, which would meet at the Cedar Valley Conservation Club every Monday at 5 p.m. The club would participate in eight official shoots, with students practicing more often, according to the form.
Board members will also hear an update on the I.J. Holton School from Holton Principal Jean McDermott, as well as an update on the district’s gifted and talented program. The board will also certify election results.
