Lights, photos, public power.
That’s what will be on display at the Downtown Power Plant Monday, as Austin Utilities will celebrate Public Power Week this year by showing the public how local utilities works.
“We’re taking an opportunity to share with the public some of the things Austin Utilities does,” Mark Nibaur, Austin Utilities general manager, said.
Utilities representatives will show off how the city’s gas, electric and water systems work through displays and utilities workers will be present with vehicles to deomstrate their skills, according to Nibaur. Vision 2020 organizers will also be on hand to display some of the potential plans for the power plant drawn up by the Downtown Plant Committee. There will also be refreshments available.
The reception takes place from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6.
“People can get a sense of what we do and how we do it,” Nibaur said. “Hopefully, customers will come away with a better appreciation and understanding of how we do it.”
