The ballad of green hair, remaking myself

“Life is a continual process of remaking ourselves”    — Albert Camus, French novelist

In fifth grade I colored a boy’s hair dark green. I mistook it for black. I was embarrassed when Miss Morey asked: “Why did you color his hair green?” I should have said I’m being abstract; instead I assumed the mental position of guilt that is frequently nearby in school.

I think I’m running out of remaking myself. Perhaps I’m tired of writing. I think my last ride was with “You Much Crazy” and that took 69 years to come out. It was something I gradually worked on.

I worked for the Herald years ago when my niece Jana was employed there. She now hides out in her town near Duluth.

Jana was instrumental in making the book happen. Jana manages the paper in her town and she also encouraged me to get some more books to market. I began with 300 books thinking that would last forever, and now I’m running out so I’ve ordered 300 more from Tony Dierckins in Duluth. I’m guessing they will arrive before we have our first snow.

And now it’s back to shoot pool with Russ and Bruce.

We’ll have a go at it with Knowles Daugherty. He spent some time with Russ and will be heading back to Minneapolis.

I am not pleased with the changing season, however, so far it appears to be taking it easy. I’m sure it will change before long.

Fred has that look in his eye that he needs to get outside along with Mello to relieve themselves. They can also determine whether or not their elusive chipmunk is still sneaking across the fence. Maybe he has already gone south.
