BYRON — The Packer bowling team closed out its regular season with a win over Rochester Mayo and a loss to Red Wing at Byron Lanes Saturday.
The Packers (10-4 overall) finished the season tied for first with Mayo in the conference, but Austin won the conference on a tie-breaker.
The Spartans had the Packers on the ropes as they took two of the first three games, but Austin won the last two contests to take the match. The Packers finished the match with one of their highest fill completion percentages of the year at 87 percent.
Kody Phillips (14-for-14) and Dan Gerlach (8-for-8) both had perfect outings in the match against Mayo to lead the Packer bowlers.
Austin will now look to the conference tournament, which will be held in Recreation Lanes in Rochester Saturday. The tournament determines which team will receive an automatic berth in the state tournament, which takes place Dec. 1.
The Austin JV bowling team already clinched a trip to state as it finished 11-1 overall and won its conference.
