KSMQ may be down a TV tower, but the public television station is continuing on with business as usual.

Workers this week removed what’s left of a TV tower knocked down during a thunderstorm in early September.

“We’re just getting that out of there,” said Eric Olson, KSMQ president. “We haven’t received a word from the insurance company about the cause. They’re still investigating.”

Olson said the station has raised about half of the $5,000 deductible payment for the station’s insurance company, which includes the proceeds from a free Jon Vezner concert held at the Paramount Theatre last week.

Though the move hasn’t affected KSMQ’s operations much, the station did rent use of the tower to local wireless companies, which they may or may not continue. Olson said the station would decide whether to get a new tower right away after consulting its customers and evaluating options.

“It’s going to be a while,” Olson said. “We first have to raise the money [for the deductible] and decide what the customers want.”
