BP strikes hard and fast in early win

BLOOMING PRAIRIE — The No. 1-seeded Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms wasted no time Tuesday night, jumping on Section 1A’s No. 8 seed Wabasha-Kellogg, 48-23.
“It’s just what we wanted to do, come out well to start and execute and get our guys off the field,” coach Chad Gimbel said.
The Blossoms (8-1) led 28-0 after the first quarter that saw two runs for scores by running back Scott Romeo and quarterback John Rumpza and a 25-yard interception return for a score by Michael Thomas.
BP led 42-0 at half.
Rumpza was involved one way or the other on three scores all told. He connected with Rumpza at the 6:42 mark of the first for a 59-yard touchdown and added a second rushing touchdown from five yards out in the second.
Blooming Prairie will now face Goodhue on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Blooming.
