Rodney Wayne Hutchinson, 65, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at Hutchinson Campground in Decorah, Iowa.
Rodney was born June 25, 1947, in Chariton, Iowa, to Lee and Marjorie (Simpson) Hutchinson. He graduated from Decorah High School in 1966. Following graduation, he served in the Vietnam War until 1968, and then served in the National Guard. On Sept. 6, 1969, Rodney married Patricia Foltz in Decorah. The couple had four children.
Rodney lived in Iowa and Arkansas before moving to Minnesota. He lived in Austin and Lyle before moving to St. Ansgar. He first worked in masonry, and then was a laborer at Hormel Foods in Austin. He also worked on a hog farm, and was most recently employed as a school bus driver. A member of Faith Evangelical Free Church in Austin, Rodney served as an usher. For more than 20 years, he was a member of the Mower County Mounted Sheriff’s Posse. He took part in many parades and county fairs. He enjoyed watching his grandkids in sports. He also enjoyed fishing, and trail riding and camping with horses.
Survivors include his wife Patricia of St. Ansgar, Iowa; his children Trish (Ron) Lensing of Wagner, S.D., Lori Hutchinson of Rochester, Minn., Nick Hutchinson of Mason City, Iowa, Kevin (Jennie) Hutchinson of St. Ansgar; nine grandchildren, Brittany Hutchinson, Trevor, Morgan, Dawson, Sarah, and Shana Lensing, Riley Hutchinson, Hayli and Jaden Hutchinson; three brothers, Tim (Dixie) Hutchinson of Decorah, Iowa, Steve (Rhoda) Hutchinson of Austin, Jeff (Shannon) Hutchinson of Stafford, Texas; one sister, Sheryl (J.T.) Lute of Great Falls, Mont.; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Lee and Marjorie Hutchinson, his brother Rodger, and a stillborn brother, Titus.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at Faith Evangelical Free Church in Austin with the Rev. Hilmore Williams officiating. Friends may call at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Military rites by the Lyle American Legion Post 105. Interment will take place at a later date. The Mower County Mounted Sheriff’s Posse will serve as honorary guard. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
