The Y’s Women Club
The Y’s Women Club of the Hormel Historic Home will reorganize for its new year Thursday, Sept. 13 at the HHH. A potluck dinner at 5:30 p.m. will be served before the business meeting. New officers for the year are: Carole Lembrick, president; Georgiann Simonson, vice-president; Evie Mohrfeld, secretary; Anita Ulwelling, treasurer; Char Plantikow, historian and Laura Helle, adviser. A full schedule of monthly meetings has been planned for the year and in May the club will celebrate its 20th anniversary. Anyone can join and the club welcomes new members. The club’s biggest event is the annual “Christmas at the Hormel Home” in November. If interested in joining, call the HHH at 433-4243 or Carole Lembrick at 437-4395.
Duplicate Bridge
Tournament results for Aug. 22 with three tables: First, Orrion Roisen and Dave Ring; second, Bud Higgins and Loren Cleland; third, Romelle Enderson and Marilyn Gesme.
Duplicate Bridge is played each Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Village Cooperative in Austin, 2301 10th St. NW, Exit 177 off I-90, two blocks north of Walmart. All Bridge players are welcome. Call Dave Ring at 434-4189 for partnership assistance or additional information.
National Association of Retired Federal Employees
NARFE Chapter 469 members met for their regular meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 14, at the Pizza Ranch in Austin. President Jonathon Green called the meeting to order. Mark Rasmussen, president of the Owatonna NARFE Chapter, was present with updates regarding the 2014 Minnesota State NARFE Convention, which the Owatonna and Austin-Albert lea chapters are scheduled to host.
Guest speaker Jen Haugen, dietitian at the Austin Hy-Vee store, explained the new nutritional scoring system called NuVal and told us about the gardening and cooking program available to area children ages 3 through 10 called “Sprouts Get Out and Grow.”
The next meeting will be Oct. 9 at the Pizza Ranch in Albert Lea.
Class of ‘65 turns 65

Cindy Fuhrman, Gwen Morem, Nancy Arneson and Sheri Newhouse finished first place on 18 holes with 130. Val Jessen, Jane Jewell, Gail Nelson and Sharon Peroutka finished first place on nine holes with 68.
