Virginia M. Christensen, 88, of Austin, Minn., died peacefully Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at the Stewartville Care Center.

Virginia Olson was born March 8, 1924, in Austin. Virginia was the daughter of Elling and Mabel Olson. She graduated from Austin High School in 1942. Virginia was married July 21, 1944, to Richard H. Christensen. They resided in Austin. For the past few years she had resided in Stewartville, Minn., at the Stewartville Care Center.

Virginia was proud to be a charter member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin, where she was an active member of WELCA and the Come ‘N See Bible study. She was active in Eastern Star, “Class of 1942,” and Merry-Makers. She loved to knit and also to play cards and bingo.

Survivors include two daughters, a son-in-law and one son. Kathryn Christensen, Lockney, Texas; Mary and Jim Shawback, Green Valley, Ariz.; and Richard Christensen, Fort Collins, Co; grandchildren, Troy, Eric, Janine (Jerry) Worden and Lynnae Shawback; great grandchildren, Michael, Brenden, Brayden, Tayler, Emma, Natalie, and Jack.

She was preceded in death by her parents husband Dick and sister Marion Capretz.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Karen Behling officiating. Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service on Wednesday. She will be greatly missed by her family and all her friends. Memorials can be sent to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church or the memorial of their choice. A special thank you to all of the devoted staff at Stewartville Care Center.
