Witnesses say man struck another with bat

An Austin man was arrested Saturday after witnesses reported he was in a fight with a baseball bat.

Police arrested Deonte Davenport, 22, in his Pontiac Grand Prix shortly after 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the 300 block of Second Avenue SW. Witnesses say Davenport hit another man in the back with a baseball bat and then fled, according to the police report.

The victim did not wish to press charges and did not allow authorities to photograph his injuries, which also included a swollen lip, according to the police report. However, when officers stopped Davenport, they cited him for possession of a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct and failure to change his address on a driver’s license.
