The American Red Cross is in dire need of more blood donations as summer plods on.
So the Red Cross will be drawing blood at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Brownsdale from 2 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 16 to help replenish its reserves. The Red Cross needs several more donors at each drive across the state than it expects it will get just to meet hospital and patient needs this month and into the fall, according to a news release.
The Red Cross will also host blood drives in Freeborn County at 8:15 a.m. on Aug. 18 at Fair Lane Community Center and noon on Aug. 22 and 23 at the Albert Lea National Guard Armory.
To donate, call 800-RED-CROSS or visit redcrossblood.org to make an appointment or get more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license, or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. People who are 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
