LaVerne Duane Burton, 71, of Algona, Iowa, formerly of Austin, Minn., passed away Aug. 20, 2012, at Kossuth Regional Medical Center in Algona.

LaVerne was born March 18, 1940, in Austin, Minn., to Harry and Marguerite (Blowers) Burton. LaVerne attended the Austin Area school system. He married Margaret McCarthy in September 1958. They had five children together and later divorced. LaVerne went on to marry three more times, resulting in three children. During his final years, he lived as a single man.

LaVerne really approached life in a very unique and unconventional way. He traveled, working jobs in construction or being a mechanic. He just loved to go out to eat and to the stock car races on Friday nights in Algona.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert, Richard and Harry Jr.; one daughter, Jessica; one son, Kevin; and his beloved Pomeranian puppy Precious.

LaVerne is survived by daughters Kimberly (Joe) Pinkava of Austin and Tracy Burton (Dave) of Custer City, Okla.; sons, Alan (Rowena) Burton of Austin, Randy Burton (Sandra) of Farmington, N.M., Vern Jr. of Rochester, Minn., Adam (Kyla) Burton of St. Paul, Minn.; sister, Barb Lewis, of Austin; brother, Roger of Red Wing, Minn.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The memorial service is planned for 2:15 p.m. Sept. 1, 2012, at Queen of Angels Church in Austin.
