Genevieve Cathleen Myrland, 97, died July 30, 2012, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Edina, Minn.
Genevieve was born June 20, 1915, in Nevada, Iowa, to David and Jennie Burnett Brooks. She attended Milford High School in Nevada, and became a successful salesperson for Younkers Department Store in Austin, Minn., for 30 years.
She married Harold M. Myrland in Nevada, Iowa, on July 9, 1939. Genevieve was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She loved to play bridge and golf, but most of all she liked being with her family and making and spending time with friends. It became like a sport of its own in recent years, and she shared many life experiences with family and friends both old and new. After Harold’s death, she moved from Austin, her home for nearly 60 years, to the Twin Cities, and later to Edina.
Genevieve is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Ken Lewis of Naples, Fla.; daughter, Karen Gooch of Edina, Minn.; granddaughter, Lindsay Anne Lewis of Minneapolis; and sister, Isabelle Hillis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; four brothers; and a sister.
Genevieve’s life will be honored at an informal gathering of friends and family at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Austin following the regular morning service on Sept. 2, 2012. Interment will be in Roland Cemetery in Roland, Iowa. Memorials can be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church. The Cremation Society of Minnesota in Edina is in charge of arrangements.
