County to lose $400K in state aid

Mower County is coming out on the bad end of a formula change.

Though the state next year will be giving out more County Program Aid dollars — the county version of Local Government Aid — a shift in how it’s given out will cause Mower to receive about $400,000 less.

“Based on the new formula, we’re pretty big losers,” County Coordinator Craig Oscarson said.

Mower County was certified to receive $2.1 million in 2012, but they’ll receive about $1.6 million in 2013.

Anoka County is also coming out on the wrong end of the change, and is slated to lose about $900,000, and Freeborn is set to lose more than $100,000.

A big winner in the shift: Hennepin County, which is slated to receive almost $7 million in additional funding.
