A 56-year-old Austin woman may face assault charges after allegedly hitting a 53-year-old man in the head with a guitar Friday.

Police arrested Robyn Halverson after responding to a domestic assault call on the 400 block of First Street SW at about 10:44 p.m. Friday, according to Police Chief Brian Krueger.

The victim told police he and Halverson were arguing when she grabbed a black Abilene acoustic guitar and threatened to smash a large screen TV. When the victim tried to stop Halverson from hitting something, she hit the victim in the forehead. Krueger said the victim told police Halverson swung the guitar like a baseball bat and he was sure she hit him on purpose.

Halverson refused to give police her account of what happened and told police she had been drinking, according to the police report.

The victim had a cut over his left eye and blood on his face and glasses, which police photographed. It is unclear from the police report whether the victim received medical treatment.

Police photographed and took the guitar into evidence. Halverson was arrested for second-degree assault and is awaiting formal charges in the Mower County jail.
