The funeral service for Nancy Arlene (Nelson) Sargent will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hayward Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, as well as one hour prior to the service at church. The Rev. Bob Berthold will officiate. Interment will be in the Hayward Lutheran Cemetery.
Nancy Sargent passed away on July 29, 2012, in St. Paul, after a courageous battle with her health. She was 58 years old.
Nancy was born in Albert Lea on Nov. 9, 1953. The daughter of Curtis and Gwyneth (Jensen) Nelson, she attended grade school in Hayward, and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1972. Nancy received a bachelor’s degree in English and history after attending college at Mankato State University and Winona State University.
Nancy spent the last 30 years living in the Twin Cities. From 1983 to 2005 she worked at Lexington Heath Care in St. Paul and in 2005 began working at the Presbyterian Homes where she was a health unit coordinator. In her spare time, she sold Avon. In December of 2009, she met the love of her life, Dennis Coburn, on Facebook.
Nancy enjoyed spending time on the computer, reading, crocheting, knitting and the state fair. She loved her family and was a very down to earth and simple person.
Nancy is preceded in death by her father, Curtis Nelson; niece, Kim (Sauer) Young; and sister-in-law, Sandy Nelson.
She is survived by her daughter, Tess (Victor) Brito of Roseville; granddaughters: Tamara and Jessenia; life partner, Dennis Coburn of Shoreview; mother, Gwyneth Nelson of Hayward; siblings: Sharon (Ray) Seidel of Albert Lea, Dale (Jan) Nelson of Fredericksburg, Iowa, Jon Nelson of Hayward, Bill Nelson of Albert Lea and Jolene Engelby of Hayward; nieces and nephews: Vicki, Sara, Jim, Paul, Michael, Patrick, Kirk, Yanus, Wendy and Todd; great nieces and nephews; numerous great-great nieces and nephews; and other loving relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
