Is Austin ready for some wrestling next week? Ooooooooh yeah!

Rock & Roll Wrestling will tear up the turnbuckles at Torge’s Live starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 27.

Ann Brookstone

“We’ve got [dwarfs], girls, legends, you name it,” said Curt Otterholt, R&R Wrestling promoter.

Five matches are scheduled, including a title bout between current R&R Wrestling World Champion “Lover Kid” Erik Lockhart and AWA Legend “Rock & Roll” Buck Zumhofe, R&R Wrestling owner.

In addition, a hometown brawl is set between midget wrestler Starla Love, formerly of Hulk Hogan’s Micro Championship Wrestling, and the devious Ann Brookstone. Both contestants are from Austin, but only one can walk out the winner. Though Love’s strong suit is grappling and technical wrestling, she’ll face steep competition from Brookstone, who isn’t afraid to mix it up with whomever she comes across.

“It’s really hard to say [who’ll win],” Otterholt said. “Our wrestlers are so competitive. Some of the stuff that they’ve done in their matches, it’s absolutely amazing.”

Starla Love

While many would assume Brookstone would win the bout, Otterholt said Love’s no slouch, as she has defeated Brookstone several times before.

“Starla’s a tough woman, I’ll tell you that,” Otterholt said. “Starla can throw Ann around.”

Yet Brookstone is known for her less-than-legal victories over her competitors, and Love may have to deal with some shady tactics if she wants to win in front of the hometown crowd.

Wrestling fans can expect to see a lot of entertainment with some lighthearted, family-friendly fare.

“We focus our attention on the entertainment aspect, on what we can do to make our customers happy,” Otterholt said. “You’re going to see big people versus big people, you’re going to see [dwarfs] versus [dwarfs], you’re going to see [dwarfs] versus big people,”

The bouts begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 27 and will last until about 10 p.m. There will be merchandise on sale as well. Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door.
