Richard Allen Jarvis, 81, of Austin, Minn., died Sunday, July 15, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System, Austin.
Richard was born July 24, 1930, in Austin to Lyle and Birdie (Gordon) Jarvis. He grew up and attended school in Austin. Richard served in the United States Army from 1947 to 1951. On Oct. 14, 1950, he married Evelyn M. Desormeaux in Michigan. In the early years of their marriage the couple moved often, living in Michigan and Iowa. He worked as a tool and die machinist, and drove a concrete mixer. After retiring in 1992, Richard and Evelyn resided in Florida. They returned to Austin in 1995. Richard loved travelling, going on hunting and fishing trips with his family, bowling, and archery. In retirement he enjoyed golf, drives in the country, genealogy, and using the computer.
Survivors include his wife Evelyn of Austin; his children, Richard (Becky) Jarvis of Indianola, Iowa, Teresa Jarvis West (Joseph Pedagno) of Pittsboro, N.C., Wayne Jarvis of Roseville, Mich.; four grandchildren, Stacy (Randy) Crossman, Amy (Jared) Wertenberger, Adam (Mandie) Jarvis, Andrew (Nikki) West; six great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild due in October 2012; one sister Lois (Ross) Rockwell of Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents Lyle and Birdie Jarvis; brothers Howard and Harold; sister Gladys Lillie.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2012, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel. Private interment will be in Grandview Cemetery. Military rites by American Legion Post No. 91 and VFW Post No. 1216. Memorials are preferred to Mayo Clinic Health System-Austin, Hospice Services, 408 Fourth Ave. NW, Austin.
