The American Red Cross, Mower County Chapter has set the dates for the August blood drive.

The three-day drive takes place at Sterling State Bank in Austin, 1419 First Ave. SW. It runs 1-7 p.m. on Aug. 13 and noon to 6 p.m. on Aug. 14 and 15.

Blood donors present at this three-day drive will receive a coupon from Culvers for a pint of frozen custard, so participants can “give a pint, get a pint.”

Blood donations often decline during the summer while the need for blood remains constant, according to a news release from the Red Cross. A patient in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion about every two seconds.
