One of Mayo Clinic’s most recent clinical research tools will stop in Austin this weekend.

The Mobile Research Vehicle will be at Band Shell Community Park from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, for tours as part of Relay For Life of Mower County.

One of the few of its kind in the country, the RV-style vehicle is a self-contained mobile research facility. It includes two exam rooms, equipment for lab tests, a private area for patient interviews, and a laboratory, among other features. The vehicle is available for federal and foundation-funded studies.

Studies that may benefit from the vehicle include community health issues like smoking, vaccinations, and weight loss. The vehicle makes it possible for researchers to bring these studies directly to underrepresented groups who may face health care access or transportation challenges.

The vehicle is funded by a grant from the National Institute of Health.
