LeRoy is getting ready to celebrate summer in style again this year.

LeRoy’s long-running town festival Summerfest is scheduled for this weekend, with events beginning Friday with a free family move, “Lady and the Tramp,” at the public library.

City Clerk Paty White said the festival is a time for LeRoy to attract people to town.

“I think it’s a time for the whole community to come together and show off what your town has,” she said.

The children’s pedal pull is moving up to the big time, as it will be officially sanctioned for the first time. First and second place winners will have the option of moving on to regional or state competitions.

“We’ve had kids from here in town that have progressed up the ladder,” White said.

Abby Dohleman previously competed in local pedal pulls and moved on.

Festivities get underway Friday with the movie, a bean bag tournament and a street dance featuring the band Dirty Word.

LeRoy’s garden tours return Saturday. The second annual Ray Kiefer Memorial Tractor Pull will be held at the Northern Country Co-Op. Saturday will also feature a car and motorcycle show, a co-ed volleyball tournament, a triathlon and duathlon, a used book and video sale at the library, the windsor chop supper, and the day will close with a variety show by the LeRoy Community Theater at the high school gym.

On Sunday, the fire department’s chicken feed will be held earlier in the day.

“That brings in large amounts of people,” White said.

The parade will follow at around 2 p.m.
