Hormel interns are ‘community focused’

United Way of Mower County volunteers, and Hormel Foods Corp. interns and employees are putting in more work than what may be expected of them. The volunteers are gearing up for Day of Caring, but they’re already working on their project.

Day of Caring is an annual volunteer day in Mower county held each fall. But this year, with the help of about 40 eager volunteers at Hormel, good deeds are coming early for the Mower County Historical Society.
“Everyone is thrilled to give back to the community and help lend a hand,” said Karen Wiernik, product manager at Hormel.
Those interns and employees will converge on the Mower County Historical Society Thursday evening to begin an extensive cleanup and lighthearted competition. Volunteers will arrive at 5 p.m., split into teams and tackle several projects and mull over trivia questions during their chores. The team that finishes first and answers the most trivia will receive “special recognition.”
“This is a great event for everyone. We have a great working relationship with Hormel and their employees. They are definitely community focused,” said Mandi Lighthizer-Schmidt, United Way executive director. “I suspect it will be great day and a lot of work will be completed just in time for the Mower County Fair.”
