An 18-year-old pleaded not guilty Monday to charges that he broke into an Austin home and tried to steal a computer and an iPod.
Kim Monykuany, of Austin, pleaded not guilty to first- and second-degree burglary, both felonies. He also pleaded not guilty in a separate case several weeks ago to simple robbery and aiding and abetting theft, both felonies.
According to the court complaints, Monykuany left school with another person on April 13 and broke into the victim’s home, as they knew the homeowners’ schedules. The victim states that she heard rustling around in the house when she came home and then saw that someone left a door open. Monykuany admitted he and the other person broke into the house, intended to take a laptop computer but did not because it was password protected, according to the complaint. Monykuany allegedly stole an iPod instead and sold it for $20 and was supposed to receive marijuana, as well. Police questioned Monykuany about the alleged robbery after they watched him leave school on surveillance that same day.
On May 27, Monykuany and a group of teens also approached a 14-year-old, held him, punched him in the stomach and stole his iPhone. Police arrested Monykuany at his home, after the victim and his mother told police about the alleged attack.
Monykuany’s pretrial is set for July 23 for both alleged crimes.
