Red Cross looking for disaster volunteers

Published 2:12 am Friday, June 15, 2012

When disaster strikes, people call the American Red Cross, but they may not ask how they can help.

The first step is to become a American Red Cross Disaster Planning and Response Volunteer. The Red Cross will train volunteers to handle local emergencies in the area and prepare them for deployment to national disasters — hurricanes, floods, and wildfires elsewhere in the U.S.

From 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at the American Red Cross office at 305 Fourth Ave. NW, the Mower County Chapter of the American Red Cross will offer “Disaster Services: An Overview.” The course provides information about ways participants can help their community prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies and disasters.
