Minn man gets 36 years for fleeing cops, killing 2

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A man accused of fleeing police and causing a crash that killed two people has been sentenced to 36 years in prison.

Timothy Gilles is accused of speeding away from St. Cloud police and crashing into a vehicle April 15, 2011. The crash killed 30-year-old Timothy Casanova of Starbuck. His passenger, 22-year-old Megan Thomsen of Glenwood, was pregnant and gave birth after the crash to a baby that died days after his emergency delivery. Thomsen was also injured.

WCCO-TV reports Judge John Scherer sentenced Gilles on Thursday to 432 months in prison. He had pleaded guilty to two counts of fleeing police in a car resulting in death and one count of fleeing police in a car resulting in great bodily harm.
