The Lyle Public School board approved a one-year contract for superintendent-principal Joe Guanella at its meeting Monday.

The unanimous vote comes as Guanella wraps up the four-month interim contract he made with the district this spring. Guanella will receive $110,000 for the year.

“He’s a good man,” board chairman Jerry Sampson said. “He’s an excellent superintendent and principal.”

Sampson said he was excited about the way Guanella is leading the district and is excited for the various initiatives in Lyle.

“We’ve got so many positive things going with technology and the possibility of iPads and that type of thing that we’re going to be doing in the next month,” Sampson said.

Guanella’s contract will expire next summer at the end of June. After that, the district could align under the new superintendent of Grand Meadow and Glenville/Emmons Public Schools if those districts’ superintendent, Jerry Reshetar, decides to retire. Lyle originally shared Reshetar with the other two districts as part of a consortium agreement. Reshetar resigned from Lyle last year and intended to retire at the end of this school year, but decided to stay.
