The first week of June often means one thing: School’s out for summer.
This week, Austin students will follow the Alice Cooper maxim. Austin Public Schools and Pacelli Catholic Schools will wrap up Wednesday, with seniors in each district saying good-bye to high school today.
“We’ve had a great year with the kids,” said Austin High School Assistant Principal Jason Senne. “This was a very successful year.”
The year had many academic and athletic triumphs, from DECA and SkillsUSA students placing high in state tournaments to the AHS boys’ basketball team’s journey to state and the girls’ gymnastic and dance teams’ state run.
Two-hundred sixty-five AHS seniors will walk across the stage at 7 p.m. this Friday at Riverside Arena. Earlier this week, Pacelli will hold its graduation for about 14 seniors at 7 p.m. Wednesday inside Queen of Angels Catholic Church.
“Overall it was a good year,” said Pacelli High School Principal Joseph Steepleton. “There were many accomplishments both academically and athletically.”
Pacelli instituted a new dress code as well as added three days to the next school year in order for teachers to attend a seminar on the Catechism of the Catholic church. Steepleton said this year’s seniors will be remembered for being great students.
CORRECTION: In this week’s Herald, the Pacelli Graduation ceremony was incorrectly listed as taking place inside Pacelli Auditorium. It will take place inside Queen of Angels Catholic Church.
