A 22-year-old who allegedly collaborated in a firearms burglary changed his plea to guilty Thursday in Mower County Court.

Shane Douglas Postema, 22, of Austin, pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary and theft, both felonies. First-degree burglary of dangerous weapons was dismissed.

Police interviewed teens allegedly involved in the case, who both said they broke in through a window and discovered that Jayson Pomsyda, 18, and Postema, were already inside and trying to break into a gun safe. The court complaint adds that the teens left with a smaller safe.

The group allegedly collaborated in the burglary as they knew the owner of the home had a safe full of guns and knives and was on vacation at the time.

One Austin man discovered info about the burglary, found some of the weapons and turned them into authorities. Authorities later found several other weapons when those allegedly involved admitted to stashing them in the woods.

Pomsyda was recently convicted of fifth-degree assault and sentenced to one year of probation and fined $300. He has yet to be sentenced in this case. A review of Postema’s criminal record shows convictions in four other states, the complaint adds, among several failure to appear in court charges. His sentencing is scheduled for July 20.
