A man convicted in 2007 of aiding and abetting check forgery pleaded not guilty Thursday in Mower County Court.
Chad William Treichel, 43, of Rochester, pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of check forgery. Police arrested him on April 10 after Treichel allegedly tried to pass a forged check at an Austin grocery store and bar several days earlier. A grocery store clerk tipped police that Treichel allegedly passed the forged check, as she recognized it as one her manager red-flagged. A bartender later cashed the $394 check for Treichel; however, she took down his driver’s license and made him put his thumb print on the check.
Police stopped Treichel on April 10 for a probation violation and arrested him. They also allegedly found a backpack with syringes and ink cartridges.
Treichel’s next court date is set for July 26.
